The writer Martin Amis once described London as 'taut and meticulous as a cobweb'. We started trying to capture that, the detail, then got side-lined by the gentle curves of the Thames. Throw in a sense of old maps, aerial views, and about two thousand years of history going all the way back to the Romans, and it quickly struck us the brief was getting out of control.
